About Us

Thankyou for buying this calendar and supporting a very worthy cause.

The Children’s Hospital at Westmead’s Burns Unit is the Paediatric arm of the NSW Severe Burn Injury Service and is the referral centre for all major paediatric burns in NSW. Approximately 1000 children undergo treatment in the Unit every year, 200 as Inpatients in Clubbe Ward and 800 as Outpatients in the NSW Fire Brigades Burns and Plastic Surgery Treatment Centre. We provide care for children in New South Wales, Noumea and other Pacific Rim countries. Burns patients require specialised treatment in the short and the long term and their needs are numerous. The treatment given to our patients must not only cater for their physical needs but also their emotional needs.

An array of dedicated staff provides all of this treatment in our Burns Unit. The doctors involved include surgeons, pain specialists, anaesthetists and a full range of consultants to deal with the many and varied complications which can occur after a major burn. Others involved in the care of our patients include nurses, physiotherapists, play and music therapists, occupational therapists, dieticians, social workers, psychologists, chaplains and educators.

The Children’s Hospital at Westmead’s Burns Unit conducts an active research program, through The Children’s Hospital Burns Research Institute. The Unit encourages safe practices by families and individuals to minimise the risk of injury from burns and has close ties with other organisations dedicated to child safety including Kidsafe.
