Help us work wonders for kids battling burns
It only takes a second....
A happy, smiling little boy played with his friends in a Queensland camping ground but as he stepped backwards the family holiday became a nightmare. A second was all it took for two-year-old Blair to walk backwards into a smouldering campfire. The burning embers had been covered with sand by family friends, not realising the embers were still alight.
Lila, Blair’s mum, ran to her little boy to find both his feet blistering. As they waited for the ambulance, water was continuously collected to soothe Blair’s horrific burns. When the ambulance arrived paramedics stabilised Blair and airlifted him to the Royal Children’s Hospital where he was treated for third degree burns on both feet. Blair is now on his way to recovery, but faces months of painful dressing changes and skin grafts. Doctors will be working with him closely to encourage scarless healing in order to prevent long term skin growth problems.
Disaster can strike at any time. The Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation desperately needs your help to invest in vital research, so that we can give kids like Blair every opportunity to live a normal childhood and a scar free future.
